The Flash is my favorite superhero and Rockie's is Wonder Woman. We are not losers, we are just super superhero fans. When we were in college we used to watch "The Justice League" on cartoon network, and these were our "assigned characters"...if you don't know what this phrase means, ask me later. Missy Loves Christmas!!!

Or, maybe not. She really looks like a demon dog now.

"Get these bleep bleep antlers off of me!!!"

I think she likes it alittle better when Luke is holding her.
After all, he is the one who rescued her!!Those little booties actually have little bells on them. It made the whole experience that much more entertaining. We had a really funny video to post but it didn't work. Oh well.

Merry Christmas!!!

Oh Christmas Tree! Oh Christmas Tree!

Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas Season has finally begun!!!!! We don't waste any time either. The Friday just after Thanksgiving is spent shopping for new decorations and of course, our Christmas Tree! Behold our beautiful Christmas Tree!!!Come along with me as I recall the journey of the Mehaffie Christmas Tree! Last year, while shopping at Food Lion, we noticed that the trees they had were beautiful and very well priced. We then decided that this would be the place we buy our tree from then on. So this year, their tree selection was even better and you just couldn't beat the price. We grabbed MissyGirl and took the LONG walk, across the street, to our neighborhood Food Lion.
As Luke inspected each tree carefully, they began to fall on him!!! Watch out for that treeeeee!!!Since the Food Lion is right across the street, why tie it to the top of the car when we can just carry it home!!! Run Luke Run!!!Phew! He made it halfway!! Look at the conquering hero!!!! A car whizzed by just after the picture was taken. But not to worry, the tree was just fine! HeHe!!

After we got it home, the next adventure was getting it on the stand. Last year was a HASSLE and this year was the same. We finally got it in and the next morning as we began to put the lights on, it quickly leaned and fell against the wall! ARGHHH!! We gave up and went out and bought a new more high tech stand and we were finally able to begin to decorate. Our tree is very tall so Luke had the honor of putting our star on the top, an honor he loves having. And the finishing touch, I put my Mexican Santa Claus on the tree for a touch of culture to it. We absolutely love the Christmas season and everything that comes with it. Each ornament has such special meaning to us and we love to reflect on where they came from, who gave them, and where we were in life. Luke has received an ornament every year from his Aunt Marilyn since he was born so it's neat for Luke to remember those Christmas times.

We hope you have as much fun decorating your trees! Merry Christmas!!!!

A Mehaffie Thanksgiving!

Our second married Thanksgiving was another really fun and exciting one full of food, fun family, and of course, CELEBRITIES!!!!!
The festivities started with the arrival of Luke's Gammie and Aunt Marilyn, on his dad's side. Gammie is the Matriarch of the family, one of the original Mehaffies, but she is as spunky as ever!!! Her and Aunt Marilyn live in Ohio and come down every Thanksgiving faithfully!

We eat out all week and have lots of fun talking about everyone when they were smaller. The highlight, besides Thanksgiving dinner, is when Aunt Marilyn takes the family out to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. It's a really nice restaurant and it's the best steak that Luke and I have all year. We always take a family photo after dinner.Left to Right: Daniel, Catherine, Luke, Christine, Gammie, Mike, Alinna (Daniel's fiance'), Sharon, Rockie, and Aunt Marilyn. Our family is just growing and growing!!

Then it's Thanksgiving Day!!! This year, Daniel invited Alinna's family over for dinner. We had a total of 20 people there for Dinner. Christine decorated the tables and I made place cards for everyone. Luke even put some ice breaker questions on the back of them to make for some interesting dinner conversation.

There's another table of 8 around the corner for the kid's. And yes, Luke and definetly sat at the kiddie table. Since we weren't the couple of honor, we didn't get to sit with the adults. The kids were great entertainment though.

With 20 people coming we needed a big turkey:

It was 18lbs. plus another separate turkey breast that was about 2-3 lbs. So total, 21lbs. of turkey. That's one pound for each of us!!!!! Everyone brought food, and totally overcompensated with the 20 people.

So, though there were 20 of us, there was soooooo much food, that very little of it got eaten. That's Larry ( old Mehaffie friend) being silly with our buffet! Those crock pots at the end are FULL of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. There was also like 6 desserts to choose from, since we hadn't stuffed our faces already!!! but they were all OH SO good!!!

After dinner, everyone zonks out with Hairspray, My favorite movie of the year!!!!! Luke and I took a walk at the art museum. God provided a beautiful day of cool temperatures and strong winds, our two favorite things. The fall foliage is still beautiful in North Carolina!!! Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the start of the Christmas Season!!!!

Beautiful Fall!!

Luke and I love the Fall. It's our second favorite time of year. We love the wind blowing and watching all the trees change color. This year we've noticed how much more brilliant the fall colors have been. Some of these trees have been so beautiful. What a testimony of God's creativeness in His creation. We have a tree right outside our window that has been most exciting. The gradual change looked like something I hadn't seen before. Check it out:

Then about a week later, it turned a firey orange red color. In the morning, when the sun hit it and came through it, it looked like it was on fire. Luke and I would just stare at it out the window.

As the wind started to pick up, the leaves began to fall. I love the wind and standing under that tree with the leaves falling made me feel like I was in a movie. It was beautiful but now, when we look at our tree .......

.......it's just not the same and Luke and I miss it already. I know you must all think that we're dorks, but Luke and I both absolutely love this time of year and feel the need to take it all in as much as we can.

I did, however, get obssessed with leaf picking this year. I saw a magazine article with all these great home decorating ideas with leaves. There were plates, picture frames, tray tables and candles. The only one I really got around to was the candle decoration. It was super fun doing it. I was going to take it over for Thanksgiving but there was already going to be a flower decoration there. So it stayed at home for Luke and I to enjoy. Oh yeah, Missy loves the fall as well!!

Happy Fall!!

New Favorite Hymn

Hello dedicated readers, Luke here. Earlier this week, I was looking on the ol' net for any a cappella groups in Raleigh because I have an interest in starting (a christian) one. Maybe one of these days I actually will. Anyway, I stumbled on to this group based out of Oregon named "Rescue". I listened to the song that automatically plays when you open their home page (Before the Throne of God) and have decided that it is my current favorite hymn. I have heard it before, but something about listening to these guys sing it SO beautifully made the words hit my heart a little deeper. Here is the link with the words to the hymn below:

ps-click the video of the vocal percussion demo on the right if you really want to be impressed!

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
A great High Priest, whose name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.

My name is graven on his hands,
My name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see him there
Who made an end of all my sin.

Because the sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

Amazing grace how sweet the sound!

Behold him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I AM,
The King of glory and of grace!

One in himself, I cannot die
My soul is purchased by his blood
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Savior and my God
With Christ, my Savior and my God

Mehaffie Boys in Nacho Libre!!

This is Luke and Daniel at the NC State Fair doing their version of their favorite Nacho Libre scene: Get that corn outta my face!!! No, Luke didn't wear his pants like that all night long! What do you think about their performance?

Happy Birthday Luke!!!

Today is Luke's Birthday!!! Happy Birthday Honey!! We did the family celebration on Sunday after chruch. Birthday's are very important in the Mehaffie family and we always go out to dinner and have lots of presents! So this year when we asked Luke where he wanted to go to eat he said:
Yup, McDonald's.

There was no convincing him otherwise. This is where he wanted to go. He has really great memories of eating there with his family and he wanted to do it again. It was fun. Look how happy he looks!! No, Luke did not eat all that food. And here's the family. What an adventure we had trying to get this picture. After McDonald's we all came back to our home to have brownies and ice cream. We opened presents and continued in our family tradition of showering words of affirmation and encouragment on the birthday boy. This is the first time we have used our "You are Special today" plate. Luke loves brownies and ice cream, mostly the ice cream. Tonight for his actual birthday, I'm taking Luke out to the Cheesecake Factory, one of his top 5 places, and maybe take in a movie. Happy Birthday Lucas!!!
On Saturday night, Luke had his first concert with his a capella group, Looney Tunes. It was fun and the whole Watkins and Mehaffie families were there. Luke had two solos and he did sooooooo great. I was so proud of him.
This was his first solo, "Found Out About You". And this was his second, "Mack the Knife". They had wardrobe changes and everything.
It was really fun getting to watch his group and three others, two from State and one from UNC-G. All in all, it was a great weekend with family!!!

Holidays Fit for the King!

This morning, I attended a Women's Fellowship at Providence. This was my first time at Holiday's Fit for the King! It was a great time of fellowship and a time of preparation for the holidays both in home and in heart. I was challenged that through the busyness of celebrating the season, to never forget the Prince of Peace, Jesus, that we are celebrating. I then attended two great workshops on Creating Christ-Centered Christmas Traditions and Creating Keepsake Ornaments. They were both so much fun. My friend Anna and her friend Dana joined me and we all had a great time. The table decorations for the breakfast were absolutely beautiful! I put them on a slide show below. Each table had it's own theme. I felt like I was walking through a Christmas magazine, really. When the day was done, I was feeling all Christmas-y and had to remember that it was just the first weekend in November and Christmas was still a little bit away. Luke and I are FIRM believers that Christmas music asnd decorating does NOT begin until the day after Thanksgiving. So take that all you crazy marketing people!! We had a great time and I hope that Sharon will let me be the table decorator for Thanksgiving!

Beautiful Table Decorations!

Happy Halloween!!!

Luke and I will always be kids at heart and we will always dress up for Halloween! Me mostly, becuase I work with kids so I got to dress up Tuesday and Wednesday and Wednesday Night.

Luke was a Scottishman and he's very proud of the fact that he didn't buy any part of that costume. I know it's hard to believe but really, he didn't. And he even had a great accent to go with the costume!
I was a beautiful fairy princess! Complete with a sparkly face and sparkly ribbons in my hair. I had that material from a Techno Dance Party we had when I worked with the youth in Greenville. So I took that and made a skirt out of it. I, unfortunatly did have to make a purchase for the costume, I didn't have a pair of fairy wings just lying around the house. Providence had a Fall Festival and Luke really really wanted to work it to see all the cute kids. I guess he had great memories of it as a child. We had a great time and all the kids were so cute. We were done at 8:30 and by 9:30 we were pooped and in bed. What a difference from all the Halloweens that Luke and I had at ECU! Hope you had a great Halloween too!!!

Wall Wedding!

This weekend was our 5th and final wedding of the year! It was our dear friend Rob Wall. Luke and I have both been friends with Rob for years and years and Luke actually roomed with him in college. We met Sarah after college and have loved getting to know them through their journey towards marriage. Here's the happy couple!

And here's another!

It was a really beautiful wedding in a cute little Catholic Church. Check out the wedding party on the balcony of the church complete with a portrait of Jesus! (if that's what he really looked like).

This is Sarah, the bride. Her dress was BEAUTIFUL!!! It had beautiful beading and an elegant train. And it was poofy, and I like them poofy. She looked beautiful!!

Luke was honored to be the best man for Rob and gave a really great speech at the reception. It really portrayed the relationship that they had together through college. Rob's Justice League character was Batman, and to add to the comedy, Luke asked Sarah if she'd rather be Robin or Alfred as a sidekick. She chose Alfred!! It was funny.

I even got to see my bestest friend in the whole world, Pam. Her and her boyfriend Ryan were there. I love getting to hang out with Pam whenever I can. I miss her when she's not around. Of course, Luke has to be silly in the background!!

The reception had an Asian theme complete with chopsticks, bamboo, Samurai swords and chinese food. Even the servers wore kimono's (I think that's how you spell it). It was all beautiful and we had a great time being with Pam and Ryan.

Congratulations Rob and Sarah!!!

Seriously Twisted Fun!!!

(First of all, I've been behind, so keep scrolling down for back-posting to see what we've been up to)

That was the theme to the NC State Fair. This is a sweet tradition for Luke and I and we make it a date night every year. Of course, we go to eat. This year we split, a gyro, a funnel cake, a roasted corn, a polish sausage, deep-fried milky way, ice cream, corn dog, bloomin' onion, fries, and chocolate dipped frozen cheesecake on a stick. Wow, that's alot when I type it all out. Don't worry, that wasn't all in one night, we went two time and the second time, all that food was split four ways. Luke and I love going and people watching and looking at all the animals and exhibits.

Luke at the fair, at night. It was Tuesday and it wasn't so crowded that night.

This is the midway at night as well. This is the brightest, loudest and funnest part of the fair. This is where all the rides and games are. People yell at you from all directions to come play their games, but we were able to overcome all that drama.

Rockie being silly at the PBS tent. I think his name is Arthur, but I'm not sure. Those are Luke's glasses I'm wearing and boy is he blind. I got a headache from wearing them for just 1 min.

Focus in on Luke's mouth. Didn't he do it just right. I thought he looked just like Elmo and Cookie. Our favorite part is being able to be silly like this together.

This was us in the cow arena. These two cows were huge. I think they had just eaten and were just laying there. You could see their stomachs moving like they were digesting there food. There were definetly bigger cows. The saddest part is when you're walking out of the arena, there's a big poster with pictures of slabs of meat that are good and what part of the cow they come from, then you turn around and see the cow. So sad, but, mmmm, steak is so good!

A friend of mine, who also cuts my hair, had some free tickets that she gave us so we were able to go twice. We went on a double date with Daniel , luke's brother, and his "promised one" Alinna. We had a really great time. It was amazing all the things that Luke and I didn't get to see when we were there before. We took alot of fun pictures but they're all on Daniel's camera. Hopefully I'll get them soon because some of them are really great. If you didn't get to go to the fair this year, save up your money and go next year!!!

Friends for us and friends for MissyGirl!

We had our great friends Scott and Kelly Barclay come and visit us two weekends ago (yeah I'm way behind on the blog).

We had a great time shopping and just hanging out with them. Luke and Scott stayed home and played a new game on the Xbox. So Kelly and I, trying to escape utter boredom, went and did some shopping at Brier Creek. We had a great time just hanging out. Kelly is a great friend and God really uses her in my life, I don't think she knows how much. We were, however, good little wives and left all the stores empty handed; much to the delight of our husbands.

Missy also had a friend come visit. Her name is Josie and she's a West Highland Scottish Terrier (I think that's all of it). Anyway, she's really great and really fun. She belongs to Mike and Nancy Corson, friends of ours who we love to watch college basketball with.
This is Mike and Nancy with Missy and Josie.

They take care of Missy whenever we have to go out of town. It's funny to watch them because they are total opposites. Missy pretty much just lays in her bed all day long but Josie doesn't stop walking around the apartment.
This is Missy and Josie from our 3rd story window watching on as we leave the house. They were so cute together.

We loved having her here.

Missy gets a booboo

Poor little MissyGirl. We noticed that she had been licking and licking her foot and thought nothing of it because dogs lick, right. Well, then she started limping on our walks and when I took a look, one of her little foot pads was all icky looking and way swollen. I tried some basic first-aid on her and when I put some peroxide on it, she started screaming like a baby. They say little dogs are alot more melodramatic and that's definetly true for Missy.

Missy licking her home made booty. Of course it only lasted about 10 minutes before she started gnawing it off.

"I hate my life"

Any who, a week later, it hadn't changed at all so we finally decided to take her to the vet. So of course they gave me meds to give her and they were complicated. Twice a day this , once a day that, every other day this, blah blah blah. Oh well, she's finally better. What an adventure.

Luke is FAMOUS!!

Well, maybe not all that famous, but I'm sure proud of him. We've said in the blog before that Luke had joined an a capella group called Looney Tunes. Well, today, HE WAS ON THE RADIO!!! he was with his group. Every Sunday, after church, the N.C. State radio station has an a capella block and they invited luke's group to come sing. It was so surreal listening to my very own husband sing and talk on the radio while I'm driving in my car. I am so proud of him!!!!!!! Unfortunately, I'm not savvy enough to figure out how to get a recording on the blog so you all can hear; maybe luke can figure that out. Luke has such a great distinct voice that I could hear him over all the others. Those of you who've heard Luke sing know exactly what I'm talking about! I am sooooooooo proud of him !!!!I LOVE LUKE!!!!!

P.S. Go see Hairspray the movie. It was AWESOME!! And that's not just my opinion, Luke loved it too!

All By Myself

Luke just left about 10 minutes ago for Greenville for a friend's bachelor party and then playing Xbox 360for most of the day tommorrow. He'll be there until tommorrow evening and I'll be here all alone. Feeling kinda bummed about it but Luke encouraged me to make the most of it. I do have alot of paperwork to get done, and housework to get cleaned. I mean, what could be better than loads and loads of laundry. I do like a clean house though!!! Hopefully some of my girlfriends will be up for hanging with me. I hate being inside all the time. Good thing I have MissyGirl to make me feel guilty if I don't take her out on a walk.

Fun-Filled Weekend!

This weekend was great! It started off with Friday night going with Trent and Jean Cormier (friends from church) to Frankie's Fun Park. It's like a Dave & Busters. We each got a giftcard as a wedding gift from our Sunday School class. we played some mini golf. Trent won but I badly lost. Oh well, it was still fun. The best part was when Trent scored 30,000 points playing skee-ball. The tickets started coming out and about 5 minutes later, they were still coming. IT was really funny and unexpected. He ended up with over 600 tickets and we're convinced that if the machine hadn't run out of tickets, he would've gotten more. The were generous to share the wealth and we each get a coffee mug to commemorate the night. Unfortunately, we didn't take the camera so we don't have pictures of our fun night.
Then Saturday we traveled to Greenvile for a wedding shower for our friends, Rob and Sara. They get married in just under 4 weeks.

We had a nice time talking about weddings and hanging out with Rob's family.

This is his "Oma" (grandma) She is the coolest grandma ever! She remembered us from last year when we met her and is so affectionate. She is german, I mean, really german with an accent and everything. She downed 3 straight jeiger (said yager) shots like water and kept asking for someone to join her for more. We all only had the one to toast to Rob and Sarah.

Luke and Rob have been friends for years and roomed together in college. Rob was a groomsman for Luke and Luke will be best man for Rob. Full circle for all of us. Rob and I have always had a love/hate relationship, but nowadays, mostly love. He's been there for me in times when I had no where else to go. Rob was sometimes the very first person I called whenever I was in a jam. We're so happy that he's getting married and Sarah is absolutely perfect for him!
