Mi Chiquito Burrito

Isaac went to the doc again yesterday for his 3 week appointment. He was a champ. He still hates being naked so it took him a little while to calm down from that. He weighs 9lb6oz and is now 21 in. long. He was only 19in. It doesn't seem to me that he's gained 2 lbs and 2 inches in 2 weeks, but I guess that's because I see him everyday. We have been blessed with a great baby though. Apparently, Luke and I were both calm, low maitenance babies too and i guess that got passed on to Isaac. He's so good and only cries when it's time to eat. He only wakes up once in the night and even that is so smooth. He goes down at bed time with VERY minimal whining and the same after his middle of the night feedings. Praise the Lord; we do not take any credit for ourselves.

Friends and Family

After Christmas, we had a whirlwind but super fun weekend as many friends and my sister and her kids came to visit. First was lunch with Chris and Melody. Here's my spread since I haven't been able to host as much this Christmas as years past. They visited with us for a long while and we loved it! That night, Drew and Jamie brought us dinner and stayed to eat it with us. On Saturday, Suzie, Malikhi, Zhayla, and Kelis came to visit. The kids hadn't met Isaac yet and they were all excited. Malikhi and Zhayla were both so excited to hold Isaac. Kelis was still too small to hold him confidently. On Sunday, Scott and Kelly and their little girl, Ella came to meet Isaac. It's amazing the difference only 5 months makes. It may seem like alot of visitors, but having friends and family come really does sustain us. So stop by whenever you want!!!!

Merry Christmas

Christmas Morning, we woke up and lit our Christ candle. It was special to wake up, just us, and sing and celebrate together with Isaac though he was sleeping for most of it. Not for this picture though. How cute is he! Then we finished wathing a Charlie Brown Christmas because messed up the night before! We opened up our presents, prayed together, then got ready to head to Luke's parents again for Christmas Morning Brunch and presents. Look at our little guy! Luke said he looked like a bishop. HA! And here he is with his proud grandparents. After breakfast, presents, and some chill time, we headed back to our house for more chill time. It was a very low key and relaxing first Christmas with Isaac and we were thankful for it. Hope you all had a great Christmas too!

Christmas Eve

Last year, some friends of ours had a brand new baby at the Providence Love Feast on Christmas Eve. I thought to myself, could there be a better Christmas present. At that moment, I looked forward to the day that we would have our own little baby at the Love Feast. Only God knew that it would be the very next year. Before we headed to the Love Feast, we had Christmas Eve dinner with Luke's family. Yum Yummy!

Luke's family has been going to the Love Feast for years and I first went for our first Christmas together. I loved it. We sing Christmas Hymns, read scripture, and listen to people in the church perform different music. It's saturated with tradition from the Pastor's family always lighting the Christ candle, eating the honey buns and drinking the cider, and Pastor Horner always playing his guitar for Silent Night while we're all lighting our candles. It's wonderful and I look foward to bring Isaac, and all our other children (as long as we live in Raleigh) to theLove Feast. Here are some pics from the evening. Here's Isaac getting his Christmas Eve bath! And Luke getting Isaac ready to go!Isaac's got his candle ready to be lit. He actually slept the whole time. Getting our honey buns and cider. The youth serve it every year. We Light the candles, and raise them up for the last verse of Silent Night. I'm usually crying pretty good by this point. The only light in the room is the candle light. It's beautiful. Here's a family picture we took afterwards. Aren't we festive! After the Love Feast, we come home, set up our little bed under the Christmas tree (a tradition we started last year) and watch A Charlie Brown Christmas.
It was very special to have Isaac with us this year. We couldn't wait for Christmas Morning.

Isaac Meets More Friends

Look at our sweet little baby boy. When friends come to visit, especially friends that we haven't seen in a while, it just takes all the cares in the world away. We had a weekend of visitors this past weekend and it was a joy. My friend Pam came in to visit and to meet little Isaac. Look at him stare at her. John and Jenni Farrow were in Raleigh celebrating their anniversary and also wanted to come meet Isaac. They were excited about their anniversary! And we took time for a family picture with Isaac sporting is Christmas Elf gear. Daddy didn't want to dress Christmas-y for church. Merry Christmas!!!

The Fourth Sunday of Advent

The fourth candle, lit on the fourth Sunday of Advent, is the Angel's candle. The candle is lit along with the other three candle's. When we light this flame, we are reminded of the heavenly hosts who proclaimed Christ's arrival with, "Behold, I bring you good news of great joy!". The angel candle is also purple, reminding us that the angels proclaimes a king's birth. As the number of lighted candles increases, the room becomes brighter, reminding us that the time for the Light of the world to arrive is drawing near.

Some verses to read- Ezekiel 34:23, Luke 2:13-20
Some hymns to sing- O Holy Night, Hark, the Herald Angel's Sing, Angels from All Realms of Glory.

The Third Sunday of Advent

We took Isaac to church for the first time on Sunday and he did awesome and just slept. The rest of the day was LONG and we didn't get to do our Advent Wreath. So, a little late, but we did it. The third candle, the Shepherd's Candle, is lit on the third Sunday of advent along with the first two; the Prophecy candle and the Bethlehem candle. We are reminded thatGod sent the angels to porclaim His arrival to common man and that He uses common people still today to spread the good news of Christ. This candle is pink, or rose and represents God's love and faithfulness.

Some verses to read- Isaiah 52:7 & Luke 2:8-12
Some hymns to sing- Angels We Have Heard on High & While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks

With Mommy and Daddy!

Being home with Isaac is fun. I knew that I would love being at home with him. I still wish that Luke could've stayed home a little longer but it has been great spending time with Isaac and mostlyjust feeding him. Here are some pictures with Mami and Daddy. I also thought I'd throw in a picture of our wonderful Dr. Holton. He was the best and really became part of our family over the last 9 months. He took really good care of us and was a great support in the operating room when I was so scared. He even took time to pray with us before the labor started. He was awesome!

Family Comes to Visit

My uncle recently decided that he wanted to move from Maryland back to Texas. So my aunt, who was here a few weeks ago, flew up to Baltimore this weekend to help him move. What perfect timing!!!! They were able to stop by today for a little while to meet their great nephew. My aunt almost lost it and couldn't stop staring at him. It was neat because she was here so recently to see my big ol belly and now she meet Isaac.

Speaking of my sweet little Isaac. Isn't he just precious!!! All I can say is, Thank You Jesus!!
Tomorrow is my first day flying solo. It's been so awesome having Luke around for about two straight weeks now. I'm alittle nervous, mostly just because of my restrictions. I'm also super emotional at this huge transition we've been through and Luke has been there to ground me in what the truth is. I will miss him and I'm sure he will want nothing else but to play with Isaac all day long. What an adventure awaits us!!!

Second Sunday of Advent

We were so excited to celebrate the second Sunday of Advent with Isaac. Of course, he slept through it all, but it brings my heart joy to think of when he'll be able to actively participate with us.

On the second Sunday of Avent, the second candle is lit as well as the first one. The second candle is the Bethlehem candle, reminding us where Jesus was born. It too is purple, for our King who was born in a manger.

Some Bible Verses to read - Micah 5:2 & Luke 2:1-7
Some Christmas Hymns to Sing- Away in a Manger & O Little Town of Bethlehem

More Pictures of Isaac

God is so faithful. We have been able to get some much needed rest and I'm feeling 500% better than even yesterday. He continues to give amazing healing for me. We expect to get to go home tomorrow morning. We are so excited to get Isaac to our home and bring him into our lives. Thank you all for your continued prayers. We are daily falling more and more in love with our little Isaac. Here are some more pictures of him and us as a family.

Introducing....

ISAAC ANDREW MEHAFFIE
Born: December 3, 2008
Time: 2:23 am
Weight: 8lbs 6oz
Length: 21 inches.

We are so happy to meet our son. He is such a sweety! He has my eyes, luke's hands, the full head of hair that we prayed for, but most of all, he was healthy. Praise God! I did have to have a c-section. We really didn't want this but it was the best decision and God showed us his wonders through it all. Luke was such a trooper. I couldn't have done it without him. I feel okay. not great but feeling better. God is bringing comfort. Thank you all for your prayers and Praise God for his faithfulness that never failed.

5:58 pm

Still feeling good. Contractions getting stronger but they are not strong enough yet. They are steadily increasing the pitocin. It's still not too too bad. Doctor is coming to check my cervix again and put in an internal monitor to precisely measure the contractions.

So not bad news, they say they do it alot for first time moms. Please pray that I will not have to have a c-section.

Luke is being an amazing support for me. Thank you all for your prayers.

3:05 pm

The doc came in at about 2 to break my water. What an adventure. I think I laughed the whole time! (this is Rockie by the way). I've been feeling some more contractions but they still are very managable. The IV actually hurts alot more and my grumbling tumbly is pretty distracting. Yay for popsicles! The nurse says that the timing of the contractions is good but they need to get stronger. I'm fully convinced that I would have never known that I was in labor if I had been at home. So praise God for His provision and perfect timing.

Now we're just sitting here watching The Sandlot.

Rockie is officially in labor!

The good news is Rockie is hooked up to her IV and has penicillin, fluid and petocin flowing. The bad news is her IV hurts a little, and she hasn't had an actual contraction yet, but she's a trooper, and still is the prettiest preggy bride I have ever seen...even in her hospital bed. Catherine brought a computer and some VHS tapes (we noticed there is a VCR in the room...ah, luxury!) Thanks for all the calls and texts that you guys are praying for us. We are SOOO thankful for all of you! It's so weird to think that we will meet our son within 24 hrs. (hopefully less though). We'll try to keep you updated through out the day.

12:14 pm,
Luke

Waiting

It's 6:38 am on Tuesday morning. I'm 41 Weeks today!

Update

Went to the doc today. I'm 2.5 cm dialated. No other news to report. I've got one more night to go into labor naturally. Then tomorrow, just wait for the hospital to call. Could be as early as 630 am or as late as 2pm.

As for us, we're happily enjoying our last "just us" day!

We'll keep you updated!
